It is narrated in Sahih Hadith that after burying the dead, it is Sunnah for those present to throw soil three times with both hands. Abu Hurairah (RA) said: "The Prophet (ﷺ) offered a janaza prayer. Then he went to the grave of the dead man and threw soil on him three times from the side of his head."

Ibn 'Umar (RA) said, "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say this dua when he put the dead body in the grave:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘When you put death body in grave, say:

Sunnah is to place the dead in the grave on his right side. There is no evidence to place the dead on his back and hands on the chest. When giving soil, there is no Dua to recite except Bismillah.
